Outreach Partnerships Overview - 2009-2010
This is an overview of CMC’s on-campus partnerships. Through these partnerships, students who have been trained in the CMC trainings are able to utilize their learned skills while simultaneously bringing these approaches, skills and techniques to the Syracuse community.
Fundamental Conflict Management Skills
The following partnerships enable CMC associates to teach
interpersonal communication skills, including reflective listening,
assertion and problem solving to several different populations within
the Syracuse Community:
GEAR UP
The CMC offers workshops in Conflict Resolution and Goal Attainment for Syracuse City high school students who are considering attending college.
CNY SPEAKS
In conjunction with Maxwell Faculty and the Post Standard, CMC is involved in this civic engagement project regarding the revitalization of downtown Syracuse. The CMC provides training for all CNY Speaks facilitators and volunteers.
SYRACUSE UNIVERISITY: RESIDENCE LIFE
The CMC provides training in conflict resolution skills to all Resident Advisors and Directors, as well as optional ongoing workshops for SU students living on campus. Emphasis is on listening for interests, managing high emotion, and helping students to resolve conflicts on their own.
FIRST YEAR FORUM
An outreach initiative serving Syracuse University students during their first semester. Through unique teaching methods, we engage students to think about the significance of listening and effective communication skills.SU ABROAD
The CMC works in collaboration with SU students who will be travelling abroad in the fall of 2010. Our trainings and workshops focus on cross-cultural communication, perception, self-understanding, stereotyping and prejudice, values and culture.
The CMC is involved in community wide efforts to better manage conflict, transforming it from crisis to opportunity. Our partnerships and outreach initiatives are continually building, evolving, and changing. Feel free to contact us for more information, or with questions about involvement in your own organization or project.
